Celebrating International Women's Day: Chatting with Alison
Hello dear friends, family, and supporters,
If you don’t know me, my name is Alison, and I am the founder of Cookery.
While I normally share cookware specials and great cooking classes in these email newsletters, today, on International Women’s Day, I’m feeling grateful - and motivated to share why.
My love of food and cooking, along with a few well-timed life events, drove me from the corporate world to follow my long-held dream to open my first cookware shop on Roncesvalles, almost seven years ago. There is not a day that goes by that I regret this move.
The secret to my success along with a deep passion for food, cooking, and cookware is having a strong community - including so many strong women.
This IWD, I'm reflecting on the toughest year ever, but one that would have been way harder without the incredible women in my life. I always say, "no woman is an island" - usually when I have been pushed, lifted, helped, or hugged by a member of my work family. This team of over 20 amazing women from 15yrs to mid-70s are all different, all motivated, and all exceedingly kind. A special few are also not afraid to tell me that something needs to change, I've made a mistake, or I am wrong about something. Where would I be without you, ladies?
I also work with a group of local like-minded female entrepreneurs, for whose counsel and support which I feel blessed. Some days, knowing these ladies are out there struggling with me got me out of my emotional hiding place and back to it.
I have 2 amazing sisters - both strong, feisty female entrepreneurs. And get this, my MOM: my best and earliest example of strength, drive, and small business success.
In addition to a huge community of Cookery customers, I'm so grateful for this community of support. What a great day to reflect more publicly and show my appreciation for these women.
I can't wait to see everyone as we start to open in Toronto, thank goodness this day has finally come. We are celebrating in typical Cookery style: with a sale in KitchenAid small appliances AND a Spring Linens Sale!
Wear your mask, sanitize your hands, then come on in and say 'hi'. It's a wonderful day.
Alison
